Before & After — Privacy Policy
In short
- Your photos are processed entirely on your device. The Developer never receives them and cannot view or retrieve them.
- There is no server operated by the Developer, and no account to create.
- The App contains no third-party SDKs at all — no advertising, no analytics, no crash reporting, no external AI services.
- The App does communicate with Apple's App Store for the in-app purchase. Apple also collects certain information of its own in connection with distributing and billing for the App. What the Developer receives from Apple is aggregated data that cannot identify any individual.
1. About This Policy
This Policy explains how information is handled in the App. For the conditions of use, please also see the Terms of Use.
In the App Store's "App Privacy" section, this App is declared as "Data Not Collected." That means the Developer does not collect your data; it does not cover information Apple collects for distribution, billing, and fraud prevention, which is described in Section 5.
2. How Your Photos Are Handled
Photos are the central information this App works with. Here is exactly what happens to them.
- Selection. Photos are chosen through the standard iOS photo picker, which runs as a separate system process outside the App. For that reason, the App does not ask for permission to read your photo library. All the App receives is the image data for the two photos you pick.
- Loading. Selected photos are downscaled to a maximum of 4096 pixels on the long edge and held only in the device's memory. They are never written to the App's own storage and are discarded when you quit the App.
- Composition. The comparison image is created entirely on your device, with no network access. The result is a JPEG at 2048 pixels on the long edge with quality 0.9.
- Exif metadata. The finished image does not carry over the Exif metadata of the source photos (capture date and time, location, camera model, and so on).
- Saving. The finished image is added to your device's photo library only when you tap "Save to Photos." Your photo library on the device is the only place it is saved.
- Sharing. When you tap "Share," the same image is written to a temporary directory managed by the operating system on your device and handed to the standard iOS share sheet. That temporary file stays on the device and is removed when you delete the App. Once you share an image, how the receiving app or service handles it (mail, messaging, cloud storage, and so on) is governed by that provider's own privacy policy.
At no point in this process are your photos or the images you create transmitted to the Developer or to any third-party server.
3. Device Permissions
The one permission the App requests
| Permission | Text shown in the App | When it is requested, and its scope |
|---|---|---|
| Add to Photos (add-only) |
"So the before-and-after images you create can be saved to your photo library." | Requested only the first time you tap "Save to Photos." This is an add-only permission; it does not include reading your photo library. |
If you decline this permission, you can still choose photos, compose, and share. Only saving to the photo library is unavailable.
Permissions the App never requests
The App requests none of the following, and contains no code that would request them:
Camera / photo library read access / microphone / speech recognition / location / contacts / calendars / reminders / Bluetooth / motion & fitness / health / Face ID / tracking (App Tracking Transparency) / local network / push notifications
The App does not use the advertising identifier (IDFA), so no tracking permission prompt will ever appear.
Changing the permission
You can change or revoke it at any time in iOS Settings > Privacy & Security > Photos > Before & After.
4. Information Stored on Your Device
The App stores the following settings on your device (in UserDefaults). It does not store the photos themselves.
| What is stored | Why |
|---|---|
| Photo arrangement (side by side / stacked) | So you can start your next session with the same settings as last time |
| Finished aspect ratio | |
| Label style, position, and whether a dark bar is shown | |
| Custom label text (up to 12 characters each) | |
| Number of successful saves | So the App Store review prompt appears only after you have actually used the App |
| App version for which a review was requested | So the review prompt is not shown repeatedly for the same version |
- All of this stays on your device and is never transmitted. It contains no name, email address, phone number, device identifier, or anything else that identifies you.
- However, custom label text is stored exactly as you typed it. If you enter a person's name or a site name, that text remains on your device. You can remove it by replacing it with different text on the settings panel.
- How to delete it. Deleting the App from your device erases all of these settings. Note that if the App's data is included in an iCloud backup, restoring from that backup may bring the settings back.
- The App does not use iCloud Drive, CloudKit, App Groups, shared UserDefaults suites, Keychain, Core Data, SwiftData, or any external database.
5. In-App Purchase and Apple
- The App communicates with the App Store through Apple's StoreKit when it loads product information (name and price), when you make the "Remove Watermark" purchase, and when you restore a purchase. This is the only network communication the App performs.
- Payment is handled by Apple. The Developer does not receive your credit card or other payment details, your Apple Account, your name, or your email address. All the App checks on your device is whether the product has been purchased.
- Apple collects information of its own to operate the App Store, process payments, and prevent fraud. That processing is governed by Apple's Privacy Policy, and the Developer has no control over it.
- What the Developer can see in App Store Connect is aggregated data such as unit sales, downloads, and crash counts. It cannot identify any individual customer.
- If you have iPhone Analytics sharing turned on in iOS, crash logs and usage data are sent to Apple, and the Developer may be able to view them in a form that does not identify you. You can turn this off in iOS Settings > Privacy & Security > Analytics & Improvements.
- After you have saved successfully a few times, the App may show the standard iOS review prompt once. Whether that prompt actually appears is decided by iOS, and the Developer receives no result from it. Once the App is published, the Settings screen will also offer a link that opens its App Store review page. In either case, the Developer cannot learn who wrote which review beyond what is shown publicly on the review itself.
6. What the App Does Not Use
None of the following are present in the App. It contains no third-party libraries of any kind — no Swift Packages, no CocoaPods, no xcframeworks. It uses Apple's own frameworks only.
- Advertising and advertising SDKs (Google AdMob, Meta SDK, and the like), the advertising identifier (IDFA), and behavioral or targeted advertising
- Analytics and usage-tracking SDKs (Firebase Analytics, Google Analytics, Mixpanel, Amplitude, and the like)
- Crash reporting SDKs (Firebase Crashlytics, Sentry, and the like)
- Attribution SDKs (AppsFlyer, Adjust, and the like)
- Purchase management services (RevenueCat and the like) — the purchase is implemented with Apple's StoreKit alone
- Push notification services (OneSignal and the like)
- External AI, OCR, or speech recognition services (OpenAI, Anthropic, Google Cloud, ML Kit, and the like)
- Any server, API, or database operated by the Developer (including Firebase, Supabase, AWS, Google Cloud, and Cloudflare)
- WebView, cookies, and similar technologies
- User accounts, sign-in, and any social or user-generated content features
7. Information You Send by Email
The App has no built-in contact form, but if you email the address below, the Developer will receive personal information from you.
| Item | Details |
|---|---|
| What is collected | Your email address, your name (if you provide it), the content of your message, and any attachments you send |
| How it is collected | Voluntarily, from you, by email |
| Purpose | Responding to your inquiry, investigating and fixing bugs, improving the App, and keeping records to the extent necessary |
| Disclosure to third parties | Not disclosed to third parties except as required by law. Never sold. |
| Retention | Deleted once your inquiry has been handled and there is no further need to retain it. Where a record is needed to prevent a bug from recurring, it may be kept in a form that does not identify you. |
| Where it is stored | The contact address uses Gmail, provided by Google LLC (United States), so message contents are stored on servers operated by Google. See Google's Privacy Policy. |
To request access to, correction of, addition to, deletion of, or suspension of the use of this information, email the same address. The Developer will act in accordance with applicable law once your identity is confirmed.
8. Security Measures
- Not collecting it in the first place. Photos and created images are handled only on your device and are never transmitted. The Developer considers not holding the data to be the most reliable protection available.
- Minimal permissions. For the photo library, the App requests add-only access rather than read access.
- Operating system protection. Data on the device is protected by the iOS per-app sandbox and by device encryption when a passcode is set.
- Encrypted communication. Communication with the App Store is encrypted by Apple's StoreKit.
- Handling of inquiries. Emails you send are handled only to the extent necessary to respond.
That said, no method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is completely secure. The Developer cannot guarantee absolute security.
9. International Transfers
- Your photos and created images are not transferred to any country.
- Information relating to App Store distribution and billing is handled by Apple Inc. (United States) and its affiliates. For customers in Japan, iTunes K.K. (Minato-ku, Tokyo) is the contracting party and seller.
- Emails you send are stored on services provided by Google LLC (United States).

- The Developer does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 (or under the age set by the applicable law of your country, such as 16 in some EEA member states). If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided such information, please use the contact details in Section 14 and it will be verified and deleted.
13. Changes to This Policy
- This Policy may be revised in response to changes in law or in the App's features.
- A revised Policy applies from the moment it is posted on this page. The "Last updated" date at the top tells you whether you are reading the current version.
- For material changes to the categories of information collected, the purposes of use, or whether information is transmitted externally, the Developer will post the change and its effective date on this page and will endeavor to note it in the App's release notes as well.
